Farms to Snack

We launched our Farms-to-Snack program last Spring, engaging 480 students in farm field trips, healthy snack-making instruction, education on climate change, food art activities & nutrition/cooking classes. We were estatic with the feedback we received, from the kids, the teachers, the parents, etc. The pilot program began with the Roseland Boys & Girls Club, then expanded to include the Healdsburg Elementary Schools. Now, so many schools and organizations have expressed interest in hosting the program at their sites that we have had to hire more staff to accommodate the program expansion.

It is inspiring to see the students' willingness and enthusiasm to try all the fruits and vegetables we bring, squeeze citrus to make their own beverages, experiment with how salt or Tajin affects the bitterness of grapefruit, literally HEAP kale, gormet mushrooms, sweet red peppers, snap peas, pea shoots, cilantro, Shiso, tofu, carrots and more in their personal rice paper rolls and most importantly, being a part of instilling healthy, lifelong food choices and habits in these young children.
